Today I am going through my monthly favourites for January, with a few December items cropping up too. This is a new thing that I am trying out on both this blog and my YouTube channel, link here, but I’ve wanted to do it for a while and with the New Year there seemed no better time. Don’t forget to check out my video at the end of this blog post! I have seen quite a few people do this as YouTube videos and found it a really interesting insight to what people are enjoying. I’M A NOSY PERSON ALL RIGHT, hahaha! So, that being said, I wanted to do it myself and I also plan to use this as a reminder of what’s been so good about each month as we go through the year.
Firstly, my favourite YouTube video that I uploaded was sorting out my ‘Studio Transformation: Part 1’ video, link here, because it makes me feel good to know I’ve made a start, making the entire project completion nearer and also being able to start something productive this early in the year feels pretty good, not going to lie.
Secondly, my favourite blog post was my Gluten, Lactose, Yeast Free Scones (Cupcake Jemma Recipe) blog post, link here. This is because I’ve wanted to expand from baking cupcakes and it turned out to be a fairly simple recipe, with great results. I said to myself last year that I wanted to start working through recipes that I had seen and wanted to do from YouTube, cookbooks and magazines that I have collected over the years and I’ve started.
Next up is my favourite outfit, which I confess, was the outfit I wore on Christmas Day… I said that I was going to throw a few December items in here (smiley face). I loved the whole look, including new boots, Grinch socks, thermal leggings, sprout long sleeved top, cord dress, most particularly, my jacket, and to finish it off a scarf (that’s more like a blanket).
My favourite beauty product this month was my Tresemme ‘volume and body’ shampoo and conditioner. I’m not one for make up (unless my cousin needs to use me as a model) but the Tresemme hair products give my hair a shine, lift and weight, which is desperately needed as I have thin hair which can be flyaway if not under control.
Then my favourite book for this month is ‘The Shining’. I’m not a quick reader and only get time to read before I sleep so it’s not the most calming of books, but I’ve seen the film which I didn’t find scary at all and can’t wait to finish the book and read the follow up one setting out what happened to Danny after, but I’m pretty slow and need to learn to read quicker…
My favourite bake for January was my ‘Gluten Free ‘Happy New Year’ Tray Cake’, link here. I really loved this post as, other than my Harry Potter cake, link here, this was one of my first attempts at actually decorating a cake and it felt really good, again, to do something that I want to start doing more of in the future.
The songs that I found myself constantly singing and humming all month were ‘Thursday’ by Jess Glynne, link here, and ‘True Love’ by Bing Crosby & Grace Kelly, link here. I heard the song ‘Thursday’ on YouTube, the acoustic version Jess did with Ed Sheeran, and fell in love with it. Now, there is a story behind the song ‘True Love’ and that is me, my Mum, my Uncle and Nana watched this film as my Nana was in an amateur production of the show and, in all honesty, I truly believe that that song is going to be my first dance song at my wedding… I LOVE IT THAT MUCH!
January’s favourite buy was a second copy of the jacket my Dad bought me for Christmas. The original one got a couple of stains on it and I’m using that for home-wear, then was lucky enough to find another one in Primark, which I wear for going out. Result!
My monthly favourite drink is Wild Berry fruit tea made by ASDA which contains blackberries, blueberries and acai because it tastes wonderful and gives me a welcome change from hot chocolate, water and apple juice.
And, lastly, my favourite DVD’s for January are: ‘My Cousin Vinny’ a film my Dad has been nagging me to watch for absolutely foreverrrrrr and which he actually threatened to cut me off if I didn’t like, along with ‘Mama Mia – Here We Go Again’, which I bought for my Mum for Christmas but which we both love and use as a pick-me-up film, ‘When Harry Met Sally’ film review link here, one of my all time favourites because it, also, gives me a good feeling to watch and finally ‘Legend’ which I fell in love with the moment I watched it, and it is now one of my all time favourite films, film review link here.
And that is it for January – here’s to February.

Remember be brave, be happy, be kind, be you!
See you next time…
