Studio Transformation: Part 1

Hello Adventurers!

As you know I have a set place (my studio) that I do all of my filming , store the majority of my belongings, including my clothes, and a place of my own to chill out at my Nana’s house.  Over the last couple of months it has gotten into a disgustingly bad mess and I wanted to spend some time over the Christmas period improving the state of it.  Here’s how I got on.

Let’s-a-go!

I actually started the whole sorting out process a couple of days before Christmas which was both a bad and good thing.  A bad thing because one, the ‘Studio’ was holding all of the ready-wrapped Christmas presents, so we had to work around them, and I had an awful cold… however, it was a good thing because it meant that, although I felt awful, I could do something productive with my time, and it was a huge project that we didn’t have to spend loads of time on if I didn’t feel up to it at that point.

Everything down there was a complete tip, there was no surface that was clear, and to be honest, you could barely see the carpet under everything.  Making it all gorgeous to look at everyday!  To start with, both me and my Mum, wanted to move the sofa from the left hand wall side to the back wall as we thought that this would make the room look bigger than it had been and we would actually be able to get to our clothes which were being stored behind it.  So, we moved the sofa to the back wall and, of course, it didn’t fit, meaning that it was also blocking the back door, creating a fire hazard – can’t have that.

We quickly worked out that we would actually have to move the sofa to the right hand wall which meant that we would have to move three DVD cupboards and a bookcase along with sorting through the biggest pile of ‘sorting’ down there!  ON TOP OF THAT, one of the clothing rails completely disintegrated on me!  Although I knew that the clothes needed sorting through, I didn’t expect that, so while my Mum began taking everything out of the bookcase, I sorted through the clothes.

After about an hour we had: sorted out a load of clothes for storage; moved the three DVD cupboards and bookcase to the back wall; and moved the sofa to the right hand wall.  However, with my two filming cupboards where they were, this meant that the sofa was blocking the bottom of the bookcase.  This meant that we had to move my old filming to the back wall which created a lot of room.

We did try placing one of the DVD cupboards to where my old filming table was, but I didn’t think that it would look good on camera, so we moved it back to the back wall.

This all happened in the first day!  So, in summary we had:  sorted through and out all of the clothes; moved the three DVD cupboards and bookcase to live on the back wall; and moved the sofa to the right hand wall.  We had worked out what the next job was and that was to: buy some more clothing rails, ditch the disintegrated one, make the new ones, place the clothes on them, and then possibly move the clothing rails so that they were straight and not horizontal like before, which would hopefully create more space.

So, picking everything back up again on New Year’s Eve, a few things had changed.  I had gotten over my cold (RESULT!), we had continued to sort small things out day to day, and we had bought the clothing rails – we actually bought three in the end to replace the broken one, so in the end  we had four for our, well mostly my, clothes and one for my ‘style’ videos, link here.

On New Year’s Eve, we didn’t have a lot of time to spend working on the ‘Studio’ so all we got done that day was make the clothing rails, and try and sort the clothes into some form of order on them.  A good job well done!

Picking everything up again, a long time after New Year’s we had a whole list of jobs to do:

  • Kitchen top needs sorting
  • Top cupboard needs sorting
  • Cupboard under the sink needs sorting
  • Boxes need moving to the loft
  • Suitcases need moving to the loft
  • Bags in front and under chest of drawers needs sorting
  • Chest of drawers needs sorting
  • Top of chest of drawers needs sorting
  • Clothing rails need sorting
  • Stuff under clothing rails needs sorting
  • Bookcase needs sorting
  • DVDs needs sorting
  • Ingredients need sorting
  • Equipment needs sorting
  • Filming cupboard needs sorting

We managed to get the boxes and suitcases into the loft and Mum managed to sort out three-quarters of the kitchen top, which I am really happy and proud of as all of these little jobs make the place look so much bigger and it also makes the place so much nicer to walk into!  So we can knock a few things off the list anyway.

Studio Jobs List:

  • Kitchen top needs sorting
  • Top cupboard needs sorting
  • Cupboard under the sink needs sorting
  • Boxes need moving to the loft
  • Suitcases need moving to the loft
  • Bags in front and under chest of drawers needs sorting
  • Chest of drawers needs sorting
  • Top of chest of drawers needs sorting
  • Clothing rails need sorting
  • Stuff under clothing rails needs sorting
  • Bookcase needs sorting
  • DVDs needs sorting
  • Ingredients need sorting
  • Equipment needs sorting
  • Filming cupboard needs sorting

In an overall summary, I know that the ‘Studio’ is not finished yet and that it is no where near it, but I am really happy about what we have done and achieved in the little time that we have spent down there working on it.  While editing the video for this blog post, seeing the difference at the start of the video and the end… it is amazing, seeing what we were walking into everyday to what we are now is such a good feeling.  It is just so much nicer to walk into now!

I will be doing a second part to this, where I  will hopefully have it finished.  But it will not being going up for a couple of months so that it gives me plenty of time to get it all done!

Before I end this blog post, I just want to say a quick, yet HUGE thank you to my Mum who, without having her there to support and help me, I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this!

Let me know of anything else you would like to see me do.

Remember be brave, be happy, be kind, be you!

See you next time…
